My wife and I decided to be surprised on the gender of our baby. Although this led to countless conversations about how to refer to the baby before it was born, it mostly led to talks about nursery themes and colors. After some hours of searching Pinterest and debating the inherent or fabricated nature of blue vs. pink, we decided on gray and yellow. Note: When a graphic designer and an interior designer are about to debate color theory, pull up a chair and grab some popcorn.
One thing that annoyed the heck out of me while we were searching for nursery ideas was that nobody gave names or links for any of the things they had found. Like each nursery was its own holy grail of baby stuff to be enjoyed once and then covered up for the rest of eternity.
For the birdhouse night light, my wife and I bought a $5 birdhouse from Michaels (you know she whipped out the half-off coupon so it was only $2.50 — how do they make money again?) and then took a trip to Home Depot. There we bought a circular drill bit, some stain, a plugin light fixture and bulb and got to work. See? Dad stuff. Ok, so my wife did some of the drilling and most of the staining.
As for those beautiful trees on the walls, that would be the handiwork of my very talented artiste sister. Can’t buy those, but if you’re local, I can always ask…
